Knotter production

The CLAAS knotter – this machine was patented for CLAAS in 1921, and for a long time was also the company logo. Our products are renowned for their outstanding knot strength.

The Kanban system is used for manufacturing control. The assembly line orders the required subassemblies from the various production workshops. Each individual part has a number, and during manufacture receives a card. The cards travel with the parts through the entire production process. In this way, prefabricated subassemblies are produced from individual parts, and complete machines are produced from these subassemblies. The Kanban system prevents large warehouse inventories of individual parts and pre-assembled subassemblies.

When it comes to the knotter, adhering to the quality standards is extremely important. The cast parts of the knotter are produced at CLAAS Casting in Bad Saulgau. Before installation, every knotter is checked on a test stand for operational reliability. The knotter is approved for installation only once it has passed the operational test on the test bench.

Today, knotters are installed in the QUADRANT. But the factory in Metz also produces up to 2,500 knotters per year for the MARKANT, which is built for CLAAS in Korea. CLAAS has already produced a total of two million knotters.
