CLAAS at the Royal Highland Show

New additions to the CLAAS product range on display at this year’s Royal Highland Show include the latest addition to the ROLLANT range, the ROLLANT 540, along with the new TORION 639 wheel loader.

New ROLLANT 540 round baler

New for this season, the ROLLANT 540 fixed chamber round baler features new rollers and a stronger chassis, with the choice of net or film wrapping. A new drive concept and outstanding ease of maintenance ensure high performance and a long service life.

The redesigned baling chamber on the ROLLANT 540 has 15 rollers and makes bales with a diameter of 1.22m and width of 1.25m. The serrated profile of the rollers maintains optimum bale rotation even under moist conditions. The rollers are fitted with specially hardened 50mm stub shafts, which are bolted to the roller body and can be individually replaced if necessary. The rollers which have the most load are fitted with new double race bearings for a longer service life.

The tailgate closing rams are horizontally mounted, resulting in high baling pressures. For maximum bale density, pressure of up to 180 bar can be applied to the rams.

Options include the MPS II system, where three of the chamber rollers pivot into the chamber for additional bale compression, early bale rotation, and a perfectly uniform bale shape.

The baling rollers are driven from the left side of the machine and each roller has direct drive, resulting in uniform force distribution to the rollers with a lower power requirement. The rotor and main drive have 1.25-inch drive chains, and the tailgate rollers are driven with a 1-inch chain.

The chains are lubricated via an eccentric pump and all the lubricating nipples of the MPS and tailgate are combined on the right-hand side. A central lubrication option is also available.

On ROTO-CUT versions the chopping mechanism has 15 knives, with a theoretical cut length of 70 mm. The knives have individual protection against foreign objects and can be swung in from the cab, and should a blockage occur, the cutting floor can be lowered with a command from the control terminal.

TORION 639

The small body TORION 639 is an agile all-round machine built specifically with livestock holdings and special crops in mind.

The TORION 639 is powered by a 68hp Yanmar engine that meets Stage IIIB emissions standards and is particularly robust and durable. The infinitely variable hydrostatic drive has two drive modes: F1 from 0 to 6 km/h, and F2 from 0 to 20 km/h. The driver can switch from one drive mode to the other at the touch of a button, depending on the application.

For work at low speeds (e.g. feed measuring bucket), the amount of hydraulic oil can be controlled via the creep speed control. The TORION 639 is an incredibly user-friendly machine, with clearly marked controls making it easy to operate even when regularly used by different drivers.

The tipping loads (articulated) of the TORION 639 is 3.85 tonnes. An optimal centre of gravity and low design, with clearance heights of less than 2.5 m regardless of tyre type, ensure excellent stability, even when working on uneven terrain. The central articulation/swivel joint provides additional safety and convenience, smoothing out any bumps along the way.

The cab and boom is positioned for maximum visibility. The generous front windscreen extends laterally to the cab floor and also provides excellent upward visibility, so that the operator can keep an eye on the attachment from any position. The rounded rear window provides the operator with an optimum view to the rear when on the move. The tapered boom narrows toward the cab, ensuring optimal visibility of the load and the attachment at all times.

Complete range of tractors

Heading the line-up of CLAAS tractors on display will be a 205hp AXION 800 with the latest CEBIS Touchscreen control. Powered by a highly efficient FPT Cursor-9 engine, the AXION is noted for its excellent fuel economy due to reduced engine speed, with a high constant torque and a minimum idling speed of just 650rpm.

The latest AXION 800 specification includes the option of two operating systems, using either the latest Touchscreen CEBIS control terminal or the new CIS+. This provides full control of the CMATIC transmission, electronic spool valves and CSM headland management system, which previously was only possible using the full, more advanced, CEBIS control system.

Also on display will be tractors from throughout the CLAAS ARION range, where again there is now the option of either the full CEBIS touchscreen control, the new CIS+ or the standard CIS system.

Completing the line-up will be models from the small ATOS range. Six models are available; three 3-cylinder 200 models with power outputs of 76, 88 and 97hp and three 4-cylinder 300 variants with power outputs of 88, 102 and 109hp. Drive is through either a 10/10 mechanical, 20/20 TWINSHIFT or 30/30 TRISHIFT transmission, with either a mechanical or REVERSHIFT reverser.

The ATOS features robust and simple technology, but with a wide range of options, making it very versatile. Its compact design and excellent manoeuvrability make it the ideal option for all kinds of farm work.
