Established in 1896, co-op is the largest UK farmers cooperative that now farms around 28,300 ha in England and Scotland. The foodstuffs produced fulfil the highest of quality standards and are sold in the cooperative's own supermarkets. To meet the requirements expected of it, co-op uses modern, high-powered machines on its farms. "We had to reduce the number of passes and had originally intended to use a Simba Solo or Horsch Terrano for the tilling and then a new, 8 m Väderstad Rapid for the sowing," explains Nick Padwick, the Estate Manager. "Then, last year, we were shown a XERION and were very impressed – also by the higher road speed for driving around the estate. We opted for the XERION and are extremely satisfied. It fits the bill perfectly." "The XERION is fantastic, very cleverly designed, progressive and comfortable to control – it fits our system perfectly," reports Nick, brimming with enthusiasm. "The tractor with track roller unit generally ran at up to 1,800 revs per minute and consumed around 1,000 litres of fuel a day. The XERION, however, rarely goes above 1,400 revs and consumes only 700 litres. Looking at the 15,000 litres that the XERION consumed in total by mid-September, this amounts to a massive saving." |
