Margarethen am Moos is a small, idyllically situated community of 1,000 inhabitants to the east of Vienna. Around 30 km separate us from the Hungarian border. Since 2005, the local power supply cooperative, "Energieversorgung Margarethen am Moos Genossenschaft mbH" (EVM), has been operating a biogas plant with 500 kWel.
"Efficient application of liquid manure is indeed a massive factor in the success of biogas plants," says Friedrich Schwarz, president of the EVM and machinery cooperative. "This is how we came across the technology of the self-propelled liquid manure trac. And CLAAS. Because the benefits of the XERION, which was still a prototype at the time, simply won us over."
In spring, when liquid manure is applied to the grain crops using the trailing hose applicator, but also when work is carried out using the disc harrow, it is time for the drivers to make use of the XERION's crab steering, because Crab steering combined with size 900 tyres spares the soil. Josef Wannasek: "This also means sparing the crops. On damp soils, in particular, it is highly beneficial when the rear wheels do not follow the same track as the front wheels. There are often situations in which any other technology would cause you to sink in. But the XERION gets you by."
