Biogas Symposium 2011

Where can the economic efficiency of a biogas plant be improved?

The agricultural sector and technical agricultural industry in Germany are at the cutting edge of biogas engineering worldwide. The general political conditions in Germany have led to a stream of innovations which are well ahead of their time, and which have paved the way to a highly efficient method of energy production from renewable resources. Biogas plays an important role in this respect, and now represents an important sector in the German economy. Alongside the production of foodstuffs, biogas has now become a key business sector for the agricultural industry. Similar processes are being followed in other countries, or are due to be initiated soon.

The economic efficiency of a biogas plant is a key consideration. The potential of raw materials must be identified and exploited for successful operation of a biogas plant. Together with experts from a range of specialist areas, we have devoted ourselves to exploring avenues to improve the economic efficiency of biogas plants for more profitable operation, and with greater energy yields.

More than 450 participants from 17 countries descended on Harsewinkel to follow a series of lectures on the topic by expert speakers. Between talks and during the excursion on the second day, there was ample time for exchanging ideas and holding technical discussions.

The topic of biogas is constantly evolving, with ongoing technical developments and political debate. That is why the sharing of information and opinions at a national and international level on all aspects of biogas is not merely desirable, but essential. The international CLAAS Symposium Biogas 2011 constituted part of this effort.
