CLAAS UK Agricultural Technician Apprenticeship

The CLAAS Agricultural Technician Apprenticeship is run on behalf of its dealer network, and not only results in successful students gaining a National Diploma in Landbased Technology.

Run in conjunction with Reaseheath College near Nantwich in Cheshire and Barony College near Dumfries, the CLAAS Agricultural Technician Apprenticeship is designed to provide the industry with the highly qualified Technicians that are needed to service and maintain increasingly sophisticated agricultural machinery.

Students successfully completing the four year block release course will in the first three years study for a National Diploma in Landbased Technology, which is equivalent to three 'A' Levels. During this time they will also have the opportunity in Year 2 to train at the CLAAS UK headquarters at Saxham and then in Year 3 at the CLAAS Group headquarters in Harsewinkel, Germany.

In the fourth year, the students will work to achieve additional elements that will ultimately accelerate their contribution to the dealer network, enhance their qualifications and boost their career potential.

Long gone are the days of agricultural mechanics just relying on a set of spanners and a heavy hammer. With engines of up to 800hp, modern tractors, forage harvesters and high capacity combine harvesters, such as the CLAAS LEXION 600, are highly technical machines, utilising Telematics, satellite navigation, laser guidance, integrated hydraulics and sophisticated on-board computer control systems.

To service and maintain such machines, the Technician of the future will need to be able to use computer based diagnostic equipment instead of just calling for a spanner.

To be eligible for the CLAAS Agricultural Technician Apprenticeship, students should be between 16 and 19 years of age and have a minimum of four GCSE's, including Maths, Science and English, all at Grade C or above. During their training students will be employed by a CLAAS dealership. When attending College, students will have residential accommodation and access to all the leisure and recreational facilities that Reaseheath and Barony have to offer.
